ALL EYES ON CYCLE RANCH: RIDERS TO WATCH AT ROUND THREE

After an unexpected extended break, the series is back and firing on all cylinders this weekend at Cycle Ranch Motocross Park in Floresville, Texas. Always a favorite stop on the schedule, round three of the five round series adds some elevation to the mix and that oh-so-good red dirt that never disappoints. The freeze is gone, the tracks are thawing out, and it’s almost time to get 27th annual Texas Winter Series rolling again.

Momentum was already building before the break, and now the stakes are even higher as the series resumes. Strong turnouts and intense battles highlighted the opening rounds across all classes. Now, midway through the season, it’s go time for anyone lining up Saturday and Sunday with championship aspirations. While a handful of classes have leaders beginning to stretch their points advantage, in most classes the fight for the number one spot remains wide open.

The rescheduled date for Round three does clash with the Houston Supercross, which could impact the turnout. With tickets purchased long in advance, some won’t pass up the chance to experience Supercross live. Others, however, may have no choice, that is if they want to stay in the hunt for a Texas Winter Series championship. No matter the choice, it’s a big weekend for racing on two wheels in Texas and we’re here for it.

The winter showdown between Tate Brush and Shannon Tarnow continues to heat up. Brush struck back at Round 2, capturing the final moto win to claim the 65cc 10–11 overall. Even so, Tarnow remains on top of both the 65cc 7–11 and 10–11 standings, with just four points separating the two.

For those of you opting to go to Cycle Ranch this weekend, we wanted to spotlight a group of riders who’ve been throwing down some good rides so far this winter.

Jesse Furtado

In the Pro classes, Jesse Furtado has been the rider to beat. He remains undefeated in the 250 Pro class, and in open pro, the only rider to truly challenge him this season has been Diesel Thomas. Thomas went 1–1 at Freestone in Open Pro. At Underground, Furtado went 1–1 in open pro and put a show on for the fans all weekend long across all classes.

This is shaping up to be Jesse Furtado’s breakout year, and all eyes will be on him once again as we head into Round Three. Furtado is on fire this season, and so far, no competitors in the 250 pro class have been able to extinguish it. We’re not going to call it as a wildfire just yet, but someone needs to step up, before it gets out of control.

By no means are we discrediting the competition; there’s plenty of talent in this class. But credit where it’s due—right now, Furtado is the man to beat.

JAMES KUHLMAN, MASON WRIGHT, BLAIN WESTBROOK

The 250 C class has turned into a three-rider showdown featuring James Kuhlman, Mason Wright, and Blain Westbrook. Kuhlman has been on an absolute tear, sweeping every moto so far and building an 11-point lead over Wright in the championship standings. Wright and Westbrook are locked in a tight fight for second, with Westbrook only six points back from Wright. The trio has created a noticeable gap over the rest of the field in the points battle.

Mason Wright has had a front-row seat to all of James Kuhlman’s victories this season, with his worst finish being second place. Wright has shown great speed and, with the strong starts he’s been getting, his first win of the 2026 season could very well come this weekend. We’re defiantly rooting for him.

Samantha Brown

Cassie Lard, Lex Clark, and Samantha Brown continue to battle in the Women’s 25+ class. Clark kicked off the season at Freestone with a two-moto sweep, while Lard and Brown rounded out the podium. At Underground, Lard rebounded with the overall, as Clark and Brown swapped spots for second in both motos. Two points separate Clark and Lard in the points chase.

We’re set to see some tight battles in this class, and whoever breaks away could gain a big advantage for the rest of the season. Lard and Clark are sure to be right in the mix, but I’m really pulling for Brown to improve on her third-overall finish.

After getting a taste of the front by finishing second in the first moto at Underground, she’s going to be highly motivated this weekend for sure. We’re rooting for the 33 to get into the mix, and close the gap on the championship leaders.

Cohen Wood / Rowan Cornelison / Logan Wibbelsman

The P-Dub class has been delivering all season. Brazos Brackett’s consistency has him leading the championship by eight points as he chases his first win of the year. Ryder Davis grabbed the overall at Underground, and now we head to his hometown of Floresville Texas. We expect fireworks this weekend in the Micro 3 (4-6) Shaft Drive class that is for sure.

Behind the leaders, a four-way showdown for third in the championship is brewing. Roczen Hill leads the charge with a slim three-point advantage over Cohen Wood, while Rowan Cornelison and Logan Wibbelsman are locked in a tie for fifth, just six points back of Hill. There’s no predicting how this class will unfold this weekend—but one thing’s guaranteed: it’s going to be a must-watch.

Nixon Retter

Jace Nassaney continues to build on his momentum in the Micro 1 Jr (4–6) class and remains the kid to beat. If you’ve watched this kid ride, you know—he’s as smooth as they come. Nassaney carries a comfortable 18-point lead into the weekend, and if I were a betting man, I’d bet my whole allowance on him extending that advantage at Cycle Ranch.

That said, there’s a young rider in the class whose confidence is clearly on the rise. Nixon Retter, who had been hovering around fifth in every moto leading up to Underground, shocked the field with a moto-two win. Was it a shock to him? Probably not. But that breakout ride delivered his best result of the season and earned him second overall on the day. Sometimes one win is all it takes to flip the switch—and Retter may be the reason I regret that bet this weekend.
