With the new year just underway, the Texas crowd loaded up and poured into Freestone Motocross Park for Round One of the 27th Annual Texas Winter Series, January 2–4, setting the tone for an epic five-round journey through the great state of Texas.

Overall, the weekend couldn’t have been better. The weather was unreal for January, the track was epic, and the turnout was the highlight of it all. With over 750 entries—most of them from the great state of Texas—it just goes to show, you don’t need divisions, regions, or multiple races scattered across the state on the same weekend to satisfy the Texas moto community. The formula? Good dirt, A solid program, and competitive racing. Freestone had it all this weekend.

125 C
Minnesota native, Tyler Zebro, was absolutely on one this weekend in the 125 C class, and you betcha, this class was a blast to watch from start to finish. In the first moto, Renzo Litteri launched out front off the gate, with Zebro, Cabe Tangler, Reid Oehring, and Jesus Marquez locked in an epic battle just seconds apart through the opening lap. The front five held station for most of the moto, but late-race drama heated up when Oehring found another gear, charging toward Tangler and throwing down the fastest lap of the moto on the final lap. Tangler was able to hold on for second, all while Zebro controlled the race up front.

Hopes for another battle in the final moto didn’t last long. Alex Church grabbed the holeshot, but Reid Oehring crashed hard off the start and was done for the day.

Tyler Zebro jumped into the lead almost immediately, and moments later Cabe Tangler’s bike let go, knocking out the Moto 1 runner-up. In an instant, two of the top three from the first moto were out.

Church continued to rally after his strong start and held onto second place for nearly half the race, with Litteri, Traesyn Quebodeaux, and Zeik Niswanger all applying pressure right on his rear wheel. Church stayed strong in the second position for the first half of the moto before the battle intensified.

But before the start of the third lap, Church would make a mistake, allowing the trio to get by. The moto would finish with Zebro “Don’t Ya Know” claiming victory, Litteri second, Niswanger third, Quebodeaux fourth, and Church fifth.

85cc 9-12
New Waverly’s Jayce Owen proved to be the rider to watch in the 85cc 9–12 class, setting the pace early Saturday morning in the first moto of the weekend. Off the gate, Shannon Tarnow jumped out front with Owen in pursuit, followed by Cooper Maxon, Charles Orr, Bentlee Schevetto, and the rest of the pack.

Owen and Tarnow were locked in a heated battle throughout the opening lap, with Owen making a late move to take the lead just before lap one came to a close. Tarnow wasted no time striking back, reclaiming the lead as the pair went bar-to-bar for most of lap two. Meanwhile, Tate Bush and Charles Orr were fighting hard behind them for third.

Owen grabbed the lead in the back section and never looked back, stretching his advantage to win the moto by over nine seconds. Tarnow rode a consistent race to secure second, as Tate Brush successfully held off a late charge from a flying Wyatt Kurosky, who climbed from sixth to fourth late in the moto.

The second moto brought Adam Aguirre into the mix. After charging from 23rd to 15th in moto one, Aguirre came out swinging in moto two by grabbing the holeshot. It didn’t take long for first-moto winner Owen to work his way into the lead, but Aguirre stayed close, keeping the pressure on and ready to capitalize on any rare mistake from Owen. Owen went on to secure the win, followed by Aguirre in second and Brush in third.

Overall on the day, Owen topped the standings with perfect 1-1 finishes. Brush earned second overall with consistent 3-3 scores, while Tarnow rounded out the podium in third with 2-4 results.

WERIDETWO
It’s great to see more women racing in Texas and throughout the sport, with many stepping up to compete alongside the guys in several classes. Shoutout to all the ladies putting in the work and riding two wheels.

THE P-DUBS
Drama ruled the P-Dub front runners at Freestone. While the parents kept it under control on the sidelines, their factory bikes did not. Bike failures struck the front runners in both motos, allowing a smooth and consistent Roczen Hill to capitalize and walk away with the overall with 2-2 finishes.

The first moto, Rance Tucker, Roczen Hill, and Ryder Davis rocketed out of the gate into the first corner, with Brazos Brackett and Rowan Cornelison close behind. Davis quickly took control of the race, laying down a fast opening lap and pulling a 1.5-second gap over Tucker by lap two. Tucker, however, was clearly locked in and applying pressure, refusing to let Davis escape. But as the leaders crossed the finish line and headed into the rollers along the start straight, Tucker suddenly came to a stop. A mechanical issue cut his race short, forcing an early retirement and allowing Hill to take over second, followed by Brazos Brackett, who would hold their positions for the remainder of the moto.

Davis still locked in, would go on to win the moto with a huge gap over the competition. Wood would get fourth, and Cornelison would finish fifth.

Between motos, we were glued to our phones, smashing refresh, checking social media to see if Rance Tucker’s bike was back in action. Sure enough, a story was posted, and Tucker rolled to the line for moto two. When the gate dropped, he launched out front and led every single lap. Unfortunately, Ryder Davis suffered a similar mechanical issue to what Tucker experienced in moto one and was forced to drop out early in the moto. Roczen Hill delivered another consistent ride in second, while Brazos Brackett held strong in third. Behind them, Cohen Wood charged hard, slicing his way from seventh to fourth after making the pass on Rowan Cornelison.

With 2-2 moto scores, Roczen Hill would grab the overall on the weekend and lead the championship going into Underground MX for round two. Brackett’s 3-3 scores would earn him second overall, and Cohen Wood’s 4-4 scores would earn him the final spot on the podium. Rowan Cornelison and Rosston Fanning would round out the top five.

Championship points after round one.

Pine Opens Season Strong with 250 B Sweep and 450 B Overall

Darren Pine was firing on all cylinders at the opening round, delivering standout performances in both B classes. He swept the 250 B class with a 1-1 finish and followed it up with a hard-fought 2-1 in 450 B, edging out Jace Williams for the overall. A strong showing and a big day for the Triumph rider.
Kellan Cooper Tops Roberts in 65cc 7–9 Clash

Bodie Roberts and Kellan Cooper went back and forth all day in the 65cc 7–9 class, putting on a great show up front. Cooper held the edge in both motos, taking the wins by just a few seconds over Roberts. The class also featured a strong battle for third in the second moto between Logan Moore and Ryan Mode, with Moore ultimately claiming third. On the day, Cooper secured the overall with 1–1 finishes, followed by Roberts in second with consistent 2–2 scores. Ryan Mode rounded out the overall podium, finishing third with 3–4 results.
Kruz Galvan Puts It on Cruise Control in the Micro 1 4–6 Class

Cruise control was on all weekend for Kruz Galvan, as he led every lap in both motos of the Micro 1 (4–6) class. Jace Nassaney followed in second throughout the weekend, while Schuyler Jace Totten rounded out the top three overall.

MICRO OPEN LIMITED 4-8
It was total control from Ozzy Barbarree Jr. in Micro Open 4-8 class and the Micro 2 Senior class, as he swept all motos and led every lap for the overall victory. The Cherry on top? He was able to pull all four-hole shots as well.

In the Micro Open 4–8 class, Ozzy Barbarree Jr. grabbed the early lead in moto one, with Tripp Roberts right behind, and Carson Cloran, Jon Luke Arroyo, and Callahan Russo in pursuit.

Russo charged forward on lap two, working past Arroyo and Cloran to take third and set his sights on Roberts. Misfortune struck on the final lap when Russo went down after encountering a downed rider, dropping him to sixth at the finish. Cloran and Arroyo claimed third and fourth, while Connor Mikolas slipped into the top five to finish Moto one.

In the second moto, Barbarree controlled the race from the front the entire way. Behind him, however, the fight for second was pure madness. Tripp Roberts deserves serious credit for maintaining his position while absorbing constant pressure from Arroyo and Russo for the majority of the moto. Despite being passed for third by Russo at one point, Arroyo found another gear late, riding on rails and closing the gap to less than a second by the finish, with Russo and Mikolas close behind.

We Caught up with Ozzy Barbaree Jr earlier this week, here is what he had to say about his successful weekend at freestone.
Elevated: Four holeshots and four moto wins at Freestone last weekend — you were on fire! Walk us through your races and tell us how it felt to win all four motos you lined up for in your 50cc motos.
Ozzy: “Just going fast and jumping the jumps I needed to jump, and being consistent, was my goal. I almost crashed before the number five jump, but I gripped with my legs and made it out. It felt good to win all my 50 motos.”

Elevated: At eight years old, you’re getting ready to move from the 50cc class to the 65cc class — that’s a big step! What are some goals you have for the next part of your racing journey?
Ozzy: “I would like to make it to Loretta’s on the 50 this year and go for the win. It would be cool to try and make it in the 65 class as well, but I know I have work to do. I need to fix my starts on my 65 so I can get up front and gain some speed with those older kids. I’m hoping to get in on the KTM Supercross Challenge this year too.”
Elevated: Who would you like to thank for helping you have a great weekend at Freestone?
Ozzy: “I would like to thank my mom, my dad, Shand, JP, Shock Socks, Berm Lords, WTT, Works Connection, Baxley’s, Orange Brigade, Mimi, and Pop Pop Albert.”
