MOTHER NATURE TRIED. BILLA DILLA WON

For weeks, the anticipation for the Central Regional Championship race hosted by Billa Dilla was at an all time high. Set on a track carved into the woods of Palestine, Texas, this event marked the final round of an epic five-round Central Region series. What could possibly kill the stoke for a weekend like this?

All weekend long, the Billa Dilla crew went head-to-head with Mother Nature and came out on top, not just once, but twice. Over four inches of rain hammered the track over the two-day event, yet by the time the gates dropped (on time, we might add), the place was absolutely dialed.

Above Billa Dilla Sunday morning before sight laps. After a long night of rain, Drew McMillan and Will Scott were out early, putting in the work to get the track ready before sight laps. Bikes hit the track at 8am.

65cc 7-9 / 10-11

The weekend provided some great racing across the sixty different gate drops, and some of the best racing we witnessed was in the 65cc 7-9 class. With only nine points separating Wyatt Kurosky and Brady Hall in the Central Region standings, all eyes were on the two title contenders as the Championship came down to the wire.

Although they weren’t racing in the same division Shannon Tarnow and Kannon Zabojnik put on an incredible show in Saturday’s 65cc 7–9 and 10–11 combined gate drop. The two went bar-to-bar from start to finish, treating us to an epic battle.

In Saturday’s first moto, the battle went right to the checkered flag. Kannon Zabojnik, Shannon Tarnow, Yumena Berning, and Jett Rau got out front early, setting an blistering pace. Zabojnik controlled most of the moto, but the #710 of Shannon Tarnow turned up the heat in the final laps. The two were nearly side-by-side at the finish in what looked like a drag race to the line. Zabojnik edged ahead to take the win in the 10–11 division, while Tarnow crossed close behind and was credited the victory in the 7–9 division. Rau and Berning followed, securing second and third, respectively.

When the gate dropped on Sunday’s moto, the first 7-9 moto winner Shannon Tarnow launched out front with a strong holeshot, followed closely by Yumena Berning and Jett Rau. Tarnow quickly checked out, while Berning did everything she could to hold off Rau, who was turning up the pressure on the final lap.

Midway through that last lap, Berning tipped over, handing second place to Rau. She remounted quickly and held on for third. Wyatt Kurosky crossed the line in fourth, securing the Central Championship in the 65cc 7–9 class. In the 10–11 division, Parker Mellies took the win, with Talin Driskell finishing in second in their final moto of the weekend.

125cc 12-17

Landon Walters rocketed out of the gate and grabbed the early lead in the first moto, with Jake Willis and a pack of eager two-stroke riders chasing close behind. By the second lap, Willis made his move into the lead and never looked back, taking the moto win.

Behind him, Weitzel turned up the pressure on Mason Wright setting up a thrilling battle for third. The two went bar-to-bar to the finish line, with Weitzel edging out Wright to claim the third position.

In the second moto, Landon Walters once again got a great start, but this time it was Oliver Weitzel who grabbed the early lead. Jake Willis moved into second by the end of the first lap and immediately began applying pressure on Weitzel.

By the top of the track, Willis made his move and took over the front spot. From there, the two leaders pulled away, while Walters, Reid Oehring, and Mason Wright battled it out for third. Willis eventually stretched out his lead and cruised to the win, followed by Weitzel, Walters, Wright, and Oehring rounding out the top five.

Matthew Curler goes 1-1 in open pro class

We’re really digging the extended motos that promoters have been giving the pros lately and hope this trend continues in the races to come. This weekend at Billa Dilla, the pros ran 15-minute motos and it was as good as it sounds. In Moto one, Matthew Curler pretty much led it from start to finish. We also saw strong rides from Kyle Looney, Cameron Looney, and Cameron Harrison who rounded out the top three. A standout ride came from Tegan Kortenbach in the 250 B class, who showed some serious speed and nearly reeled in the pro leaders by the end.

In the second moto, it was Cameron Harrison who grabbed the early lead, with Jacob Turbyfill and Kyle Looney running close behind. First-moto winner Curler sat in fourth as the field charged into lap two, but it didn’t take long for him to start moving forward. He worked his way past Turbyfill and then Looney to take over second, and from there the pace at the front began to tighten.

Harrison held a steady lead for several laps, but as the moto wore on, Curler began reeling him in. With just a few laps to go, the gap had shrunk and the battle was on. Curler closed in and showed a wheel multiple times before the two went side-by-side up the first hill. Curler made the pass stick, took over the lead, and controlled the remaining laps to the finish.

The Champ Hayes Herrin goes 1-1 in the 51cc 4-6 class

Remember the name — Hayes Herrin, your 2025 51cc 4–6 Central Region Champion. Herrin came into the weekend with the title pretty much locked up, but like any true champ, he didn’t take it easy. He did what he does best, going 1-1 in dominant fashion to seal the deal. We asked the six-year-old how it felt to win the Championship, and this is what he had to say “It feels really good! My favorite part of the track? The finish line, of course 🏁 I’m pretty pumped to add another number one plate to my collection!”

In the five-round series, Hayes Herrin’s worst finish was second place. He opened the season with a win at Rafters and closed it out on the top step going 1-1 at Billa Dilla.
After finishing third in Saturday’s first moto, Nixon Retter came out the gate strong on Sunday for Moto 2, crossing the line just behind Hayes Herring to take second, giving him second overall on the day. Retter finished the Central Series Second overall in his class.

Nathan Martins was consistent across all five rounds, earning him third overall in the Central Championship.
Brazos Brackett came out swinging in Moto 1, battling up towards the front, until the track had other plans. Bracket Finished 6-5 on the weekend for 6th overall.

The P-Dubs. Standout Class Of The Weekend

How can a class with only four entries end up being the standout class of the weekend? Because these little dudes are rad, taking on a deep, heavy track on their P-Dubs. We’re not sure where the rest of the crew was, maybe the weather scared some off—but Cole Bradshaw, Brazos Bracket, Nathan Martins, and Wyatt Lamdin lined up and took the challenge head on both Saturday and Sunday proving that heart > horsepower all weekend long.

When it came to the racing, it was all the 777 of Cole Bradshaw. The control he had over that little bike the brutal Billa Dilla track was something to see. Bradshaw went 1-1 on the day while Nathan Martins and Brazos Brackett battled all weekend, trading positions in both motos. Brackett edged out Martins in the final moto to secure second overall, leaving Martins with third for the weekend. Wyatt Lamdin came away with fourth, but he definitely earned the Lit Kit award—his setup was absolutely 🔥

85cc Open 9-11

Newly crowned Central state Champ, Kyler Prewitt grabbed the early lead in the first 9–11 moto with Jett Rau, Shannon Tarnow, Brim Brockmueller, and Brayden Marzka in tow. As they headed into the second lap, Rau began applying pressure on Prewitt up front while the rest of the field settled into position. Meanwhile, Kannon Zabojnik was on the charge, steadily closing the gap on the leaders. In the end, Prewitt held strong to take the win, followed by Rau in second, Zabojnik in third, Tarnow in fourth, and Brockmueller rounding out the top five.

Prewitt grabbed the holeshot in the second moto, with Jett Rau and Shannon Tarnow joining him at the front early. Tarnow soon began pressuring Rau and made the pass for second, while Dakota Lee and Brim Brockmueller battled hard for the fourth and fifth positions. Prewitt stayed in control and went on to take the moto win, followed by Tarnow in second, Rau in third, Brockmueller in fourth, and Lee rounding out the top five.
